South West Regional League 1
Galmington 38, Poole Aquarians 50

GALMINGTON took on the Poole Aquarians and started well, finishing the first quarter level at 12-12.

Outstanding performances from opposite ends of the court from Laura Lou Dyke at GA and Helen Jones at GK weren’t enough to break the strong Aquarians side.

The score settled at 50-38 to the opposition but Galmington’s players left knowing they’d given all they could.

Trident 43, Raychem 47

THE defensive might of Trident’s back three was out in full force against Raychem of Swindon.

An outstanding display by Jazmin Chester at GD saw Trident reduce the final deficit to just four and claim a bonus point.

Hovelands 46, Tone 38

HOVELANDS had a local derby against Taunton Netball Club's Tone to kick-off 2018.

Hovelands were the stronger team throughout, at one point leading by 15, but the final quarter saw Tone pull it back as Hovelands struggled with fitness but held on to their lead.

Player of the match went to the determined Polly Ridgway at GD, who put in the graft with her GK (Hannah) to disrupt Tone’s shooting circle.

Somerset Division 2
Queensway 15, Bishops 62

THIRD-PLACED Queensway came up against unbeaten table-toppers Bishops from Wells Netball Club.

The Galmington side were initially overwhelmed by the strength of Bishops, whose well-rehearsed play and determined teamwork were way beyond Queensway despite the great efforts of Lucy Hemmings, who stepped out of position at shooter to defend at GK and had a fantastic game.

Newbarn 19, Canons 30

GALMINGTON Under-16s came up against a determined North Dorset side away in Blandford Forum.

North Dorset took a convincing victory but there were plenty of positives, including an Under-16s debut for Under-14s player Hannah Squire.

There were also stand-out performances from Alex Martin and Bea Renyard in defence, as well as Daisy West at C.
