Craig races to podium finish

WELLINGTON racing driver Craig Fleming secured a place on the podium in one of the biggest races of his season last weekend.

The 26-year-old former British Formula Three driver , who has raced against Formula One stars Jenson Button, Anthony Davidson, Takuma Sato, Kimi Raikonen and even Top Gear's The Stig' is currently competing in the MSA 250 National Superkart Championship.

Last weekend saw the British Superkart GP take place at the stunning Cadwell Park circuit and among an entry of 58 Craig fought his way to third place in one of the toughest races of his career.

Having raced some of the most sophisticated racing cars, the superkart may seem an odd choice of racing category.

Fleming said: "What people don't realise is that with a 0-60mph time of three seconds and a top speed of around 140mph the Superkart is a serious piece of kit. As much as I would love to be racing in the top flight car racing categories again, if you can't raise the budgets required to race at the front then it is a non-starter."

Craig is quick to point out that this year he could not be competing without the help of his sponsors.

He said: "It is very difficult it is to find the financial backing required in any sport to compete at the top, so I can't thank CH Contracting of Frome and Elite Electrix in Wellington enough for their invaluable support. I hope my result at the GP meeting is some reward for them."

The British Superkart Championship visits Castle Combe on September 13 and Craig's progress can be followed via his website www.craigfleming.co.uk
