Hole in one-der!

MINEHEAD Golf Club member Andy Dahl wrote his name clearly in the club’s record books with his second hole in one this year on the 159 yard par three tenth hole.

In fact, it was Andy’s third hole in one on this hole and the seventh hole in one he has achieved since becoming a member of Minehead in 1980.

The other four have been two each on the 215 yard par three fourth hole and 150 yard par three 14th. When few golfers enjoy the achievement of having just one hole in one during their playing days, to have seven is a little greedy.

Andy is the first to make it clear that it is more by luck than judgement. The only par three hole that has eluded him so far is the 215 yard 18th. “I’ve no chance of getting a hole in one there,” said Andy. “I can’t even reach the green off the tee these days!”

Another interesting hole-in-one story came to light during the club’s recent Open Afternoon when a visiting golfer from Gloucestershire brought in a trophy that had been won by his father at the club in 1932.

The trophy, a silver globe that opened up to reveal the golf ball used, was presented to N S Mitchell-Innes on February 27, 1932, for achieving a hole in one on the 293 yard par four sixth hole.

Club representatives will be available at the Get Active event at the Minehead Sports Centre today (Thursday, July 2) to talk about the club and answer any questions about membership.
