FOOTBALL: Minehead seek support as they look to the future

Minehead Football Academy is holding a recruitment month throughout July in a bid to improve all aspects of the club.

The academy is the umbrella organisation set up to oversee the use of the Recreation Ground premises where football has been played since 1889.

Minehead FC Chairman Brian Walder said: “This month Trustees of the academy will sign a 25 year lease with Minehead Town Council which will mean a huge step towards ensuring football at a good standard will be played in our town.

“We now need to build strong teams both on and off the pitch, to secure our future for the next 25 years.

“We have a £100,000 funding project, more than 300 registered players across the seniors and juniors, and the future is bright. We are calling on people to help support football in Minehead.

“The Academy consider that the committee will need to be far bigger, possibly at least doubled, to ensure that revenue streams can be found, maintained and increased so that all costs involved in running the premises and grounds can be comfortably met.

“The committee have their own development aspirations and ideas, but need help and guidance in many aspects such as planning, design and layout, structural limitations, health and safety, licensing, legalities etc.

“Certain aspects of the physical and cosmetic rejuvenation will be completed by utilising club members’ own attributes, but any additional builders, plumbers, decorators and cleaners would be welcome.

“We will also need ongoing assistance regarding the day-to-day operating of the premises, catering and bar managers and personnel, grant funding applications, general fund raising and people with a flair for promoting and the hosting of events.”

MINEHEAD Football Academy and Minehead AFC are both holding their annual meetings next Monday at the clubhouse. The Academy meeting will start at 7pm with the AFC meeting around 7.45pm.
