A FIELD of 114 golfers competed the RNLI Medal fundraiser at Taunton & Pickeridge.

Division one winner, with a nett score of 66, was Tony Humpreys who pipped Mel Trott to the post by one stroke. Michael Fudge took third spot shooting a nett 68.

Performance of the day however went to Cliff Phur, his division two winning score of nett 62 left him a full six shots clear of his nearest rival. Peter Fear was victorious in the third division.

Sunday saw 22 teams compete for the Captain's Mixed Foursomes trophy. A good-natured battle witnessed the pairing of Roy Mitchell and Christine Collins take first place.

Their very respectable tally of 39 points was enough to leave Arthur Morgan and Mary Guy in the runners-up position.

Earlier in the week the ladies' invitation day attracted players from a dozen clubs.

The event was won by Jill Paul and Lesley Willis recording 43 points between them.

That score left them level with Elaine Payne and Sally Woolmington but a better back-nine score saw them home. On Monday, the seniors’ section hosted the Norman Oakley Stableford.

Victory went to Steve Hodgson who chalked up 37 points during his round.

Royston Grout, Lynn Dewhurst and Colin Hatton completed the top four, with just two points separating the prize-winners.
