HORSE RACING: Taunton announce fixture list

Taunton Racecourse has just unveiled its fixture list for the coming National Hunt season, and it is the biggest and best ever to be hostedat the Orchard Portman track.

The 16 date fixture list includes a Sunday meeting on December 30, a Saturday meet on January 19, plus two evening dates on Wednesday, April 24 and Thursday, May 2.

Racing kicks off on with a Family Day on Tuesday, October 30 when there will be an array of activities at the course, including a funfair, to cater for the interests of all ages, and a seven race card which gets underway at 1.30pm and is worth a generous £38,000.

Taunton hosts a further three meetings before Christmas on November 15 and 29 and December 13 each comprising seven races which is a feature of all 16 fixtures this season.

The post Christmas meeting on Sunday, December 30, is always the biggest of the season and the action gets underway at 12.40pm so those intending to go along should make a date in their diaries and be sure to get there in plenty of time to avoid any disappointment.

Into the New Year racing comes thick and fast and in both January and February the Somerset course hosts three meetings.

Racecourse manager Bob Young said: “Although the waiting has proved frustrating the fixture list process has proved very satisfying as we are delighted have evening fixtures on April 24 and May 2 to finish the season.”
