Somerset Premier Cup semi-final
Keynsham Town 1, Taunton Town 2 (AET)

ED Palmer stepped up with a captain's goal to see off a dogged Keynsham Town, and send Taunton Town into the Somerset Premier Cup final.

Jordan Rogers scored on his return to the Peacocks side, only for Matt Brown to equalise and take the game to extra time, where Palmer's free-kick proved decisive.

Forced to rotate by suspension and injury, boss Leigh Robinson brought youngsters Charlie Melvin-Sparks and Tom Stone into the team (with fellow development players Billy Greene, Rhys Ford and Kye Toogood on the bench), but was boosted by the return of top scorer Rogers after a two-game ban.

Rogers proved the visitors' main goal threat from the start, sending one shot over from a corner and seeing another effort saved after Melvin-Sparks picked him out.

Ben Harris shot wide for Keynsham, and Josh Searle forced another save from home keeper Wintle, but it was goalless at the break.

Shortly after half time Rogers' long-range volley was again well saved, but he broke the deadlock on 55 minutes as he headed home from a Ross Staley corner.

Yet it was 1-1 only six minutes later as Peacocks keeper Lloyd Irish fumbled Harris' free-kick, and Brown was on hand to score his 28th of the season for Keynsham.

Craig Veal and Brown missed chances for either side to win the game in normal time, meaning than an extra 30 minutes was required.

The visitors dominated after the restart, Craig Duff firing wide after an effort came back off the post, and a Keynsham defender hit his own crossbar with a clearance.

And when Staley was tripped 35 yards out, captain for the night Palmer thundered home the free-kick, which proved to be the winner.

The Peacocks will face Weston-super-Mare in the final, with the date to be arranged.
