Pre-season friendly
Bridgwater Town 2, Taunton Town 1

TAUNTON Town suffered their third defeat of pre-season in a not-so-friendly match at Bridgwater Town last night.

The Peacocks welcomed back several players who were absent from the 3-1 win at Willand Rovers last Friday, and also Owen Irish, who had been out with a broken toe.

However, the hosts took the lead after 16 minutes, as the Peacocks afforded Mark Armstrong too much time to find Syd Camper to finish.

The visitors were level inside five minutes, however, as Ben Adelsbury scored his second free-kick in successive matches, curling the ball into the bottom corner.

It was level at half time, but five minutes after the break Peacocks keeper Lloyd Irish clumsily upended Camper in the box, and Callum Ham netted the spot-kick.

Few chances followed as the game became bitty and ill-tempered, and the home side saw out their win.

The Peacocks will hope that the injury sustained by Owen Irish is not too serious, given he had only just returned to the team and fellow centre-back Chris McGrath also missed the match with injury.

Taunton's next match is this Friday (August 4), at home to Bristol City XI (ko 7.45pm).
