Evo-Stik Southern League West
Kidlington 2, Taunton Town 2

A LATE equaliser denied Taunton Town a fifth straight league victory, after Matt Wright's double looked to have given them the points away to Kidlington.

Peacocks boss Leigh Robinson made two changes from the midweek FA Cup defeat to Tavistock, bringing Owen Irish and Ross Staley into the side.

Omar Simpson - a new signing from Paulton Rovers - made the bench, as did former Under-18 player Matt Trump, with Joe Charles and Chris McGrath out injured, and Lewis Powell being linked with a move away from the club.

Town went behind early on against Tavistock, and the same fate befell them again at Yarnton Road, as Darius Brown scored from Kidlington's first attack of the match on six minutes, converting Mark Bell's cross.

The visitors created chances - Ollie Chamberlain drawing a save from goalkeeper Bojan Tetek - but they had to wait until the 26th minute for their equaliser, as Wright headed home Ryan Brett's fine cross.

More chances followed, with Wright shooting just wide and Brett seeing a fierce shot well saved, but it remained all square at the break.

The Peacocks had a golden chance to take the lead just before the hour, as Wright was fouled in the penalty area, but Tetek saved Staley's spot-kick.

After substitute Simpson had hit the bar, Wright made his second decisive intervention of the game, heading in on 70 minutes to give his side the lead.

But they could not hold on to the win. With the visitors backing off, Kidlington began to create chances again, and Anaclet Odhiambo struck with just minutes left.

That meant a share of the spoils, and a missed opportunity for Town to extend their winning run in the league - allowing Bristol Manor Farm to overtake them at the top of the table.

Their next match is at home to AFC Totton, next Saturday (September 16, ko 3pm).
