FA Cup - first qualifying round

Tavistock 2, Taunton Town 2

TAUNTON Town will have to come through a replay to progress in the FA Cup after letting a two-goal lead slip against Tavistock in Devon.

Goals from Ollie Chamberlain and Lewis Powell were cancelled out by a Jack Crago brace, while the Peacocks ended an eventful match a man light after Les Afful was sent off late on.

Town boss Leigh Robinson named a strong side for the trip to face last season's South West Peninsula League champions, but it took until three minutes after the half hour mark for the visitors to break the deadlock.

Chamberlain ensured they did so in style, flicking the ball over a defender and volleying home to hand the Peacocks a lead they held until half-time.

Frontman Powell doubled the lead on 52 minutes after getting on the end of Pierce Mitchell's cross, but any hopes the Peacocks had of strolling into the next round were extinguished just six minutes later as Crago halved the deficit.

The hosts continued to push for a leveller and their pressure told just five minutes from time as Crago notched his second to complete Tavistock's impressive comeback.

There was still enough time for Les Afful, who had only been on the pitch for 18 minutes, to pick up his second yellow card and receive his marching orders in added time as the Peacocks were left frustrated by their inability to finish off a side who play two divisions below them.

The two sides will do it all over again on Tuesday (September 5) at the Viridor Stadium, with a place in the second qualifying round at stake.

Taunton Town: Lloyd Irish, Pierce Mitchell, Ryan Brett, Owen Irish (Ross Staley), Arran Pugh, Ben Adelsbury, Shane White, Brett Trowbridge, Matt Wright (Olly Mehew), Lewis Powell (Olly Mehew), Ollie Chamberlain.
