TAUNTON Town captain Matt Wright says the visit of Salisbury tomorrow (ko 3pm) is the Peacocks’ “biggest game so far this season”.

Town are perched on top of the Evo-Stik Southern League West standings with a seven-point gap to nearest rivals Bristol Manor Farm, and fourth-placed Salisbury are three points further back.

The Peacocks3-0 win over Barnstaple Town on Tuesday was a rather bitty affair, but the hosts toughed it out to claim the points.

“We got the job done,” said Wright.

“[Barnstaple] slowed it right down, and the referee stopped the game at every opportunity.

“But we did well to get the win.”

There was no sign of complacency from the home side, despite the absence of manager Leigh Robinson due to him starting a new day job.

Wright added: “There are big characters in the dressing room, and we’d never let [Robinson’s absence] affect us.

“If you’d said at the start of the season that we’d be seven points clear, I’d snatch your hand off.

“But we can’t take our foot off the pedal – no league is won in December.”

They’re certainly motivated to make a statement against Salisbury, who have had a very mixed season so far but beat Kidlington 6-1 on Tuesday night.

“We could go 13 points clear of Salisbury with a win; it’s our biggest game so far this season, and I want to win it.

“Salisbury look like they’re starting to click, against Bideford and [Tuesday] night, so we can’t take anything for granted.”
