TAUNTON Town boss Leigh Robinson was full of praise for his side after the 4-1 victory over Salisbury, which perfectly marked his 300th game in charge of the Peacocks.

There was a pre-match presentation to mark Robinson's achievement, and his players continued the celebratory theme with a comprehensive win against their promotion rivals.

Reflecting on the match, Robinson said: “It was a hell of a good performance – full of confidence and full of energy, particularly in the first half.

“We knew Salisbury were good going forward but perhaps a little vulnerable defensively so we wanted to make our mark on the game early, which we did.

“In the second half they chucked everything at it – it’s easier to play against a team when you know what shape they will set up in, but when they are running everywhere and chasing the game it can become difficult.

"We knew our concentration had to be good in the second half, and I think we saw it out pretty comfortably in the end."

The deadlock was broken by Dan Sullivan, a player who has become increasingly vital since joining from Tavistock.

“There’s the number of goals you score, and then there’s big goals, and Dan keeps popping up with big goals," Robinson said.

"The first goal has been so important in recent weeks and very often it has been him that’s provided it."

Bristol Manor Farm's defeat means Taunton now hold a 10-point lead at the top of Evo-Stik South West. Despite the cushion and the manner in which they dispatched Salisbury, however, Robinson is urging his players to keep their feet on the ground.

“It is [a statement result], but it brings its own dangers as well as people may look at this result and think it’s done and Taunton will run away with it – if we start listening to that and believing that it will bring problems.

“I’ve said to the players that it’s a great day but only three points. Things in non-league football can change very quickly and we have to keep working hard and moving forward, making sure we put our bodies on the line every week until the job is done."

And after 300 games in the dugout, no-one is better prepared to keep the Peacocks focused on the task at hand than Robinson.

"The chairman caught me by surprise before the game [with the presentation], but today's game was a very nice way to mark it and hopefully there will be many more to come."
