TAUNTON Town hope to take another step towards confirming promotion - and the Evo-Stik Southern League West title - tonight, as they host Wimborne Town at the Viridor Stadium (ko 7.45pm).

The sides are yet to meet this season, with this fixture having been postponed five times due to cup matches and waterlogged pitches.

The Peacocks are 13 points clear at the top, with a 21-point buffer to the sides outside the automatic promotion places, so their place in the Southern League Premier next season seems a matter of when not if.

Their 25-game unbeaten run in the league may well come under serious examination tonight, though, with Wimborne in third place.

They have gone eight games without loss, six of those wins, and striker Toby Holmes has scored hat-tricks in his last two matches.

The hosts will need to improve their defensive performance from Saturday, as Larkhall Athletic were unfortunate not to score more than two as the Peacocks seemed to miss the calming presence of Keith Emmerson.

Emmerson is absent tonight as well due to being on holiday, while there are still doubts over Pierce Mitchell's fitness.

Exeter City loanee Joel Randall is set to return after injury, to be joined in the squad by Alpha Oumar Sow - the club having confirmed the signing of the 34-year-old Senegalese striker.

It's quite a coup for the Peacocks, having received clearance from the FA to sign him and give him his debut off the bench against Larkhall.

He has played for Union Sportive Ait Melloul and KAC Kenitra in Morrocco, as well as other clubs including ASC Diaraf Dakar in Senegal and US Senart Moissy in France.

Notably, he was in Senegal's squad for the African Nations Championship in 2009, and scored in both the semi-final against Ghana and third-place playoff versus Zambia.

According to manager Leigh Robinson, he is still some way off full fitness, but he is certainly an intriguing addition for the Peacocks ahead of their final nine games this season.

County Gazette readers can get into tonight's game for a reduced price (£5 adults, £3 concessions, £1 under-18s) with the exclusive voucher on page 126 of last week's paper.
