Evo-Stik Southern League West
Wimborne Town 1, Taunton Town 1

TAUNTON Town stretched their unbeaten league run to 30 matches after securing a draw from their tough away match at Wimborne Town.

Nuno Felix netted for the Peacocks, with Matt Oldring replying, as the champions and their promotion-chasing hosts settled for a point apiece.

With the title secured last week, manager Leigh Robinson took the opportunity to offer more game time to Joel Randall, Toby Down and Les Afful, with Pierce Mitchell and Keith Emmerson injured and skipper Matt Wright rested.

Josh Nelmes scored the winner against Evesham last Saturday, and he came close to an early opener here, heading narrowly wide from a corner, while Louis Kellaway fired narrowly over the bar for the home side.

Dan Sullivan then shot over, before Felix broke the deadlock with a superb 30-yard piledriver into the top corner on 20 minutes.

Felix could have had a second, but home goalkeeper Gerard Benfield kept out his shot which was destined for the bottom corner, and then the hosts equalised on the half-hour.

Luke Burbidge took a free-kick for Wimborne, and Oldring headed past Lloyd Irish to level things up.

It was all square at the break, and the Magpies edged matters upon the restart, with Burbidge firing just wide of the target.

The Peacocks introduced Wright and Craig Veal from the bench, and almost retook the lead on the hour, only for Benfield to keep out Shane White's header on the line.

Toby Holmes - who has 38 league goals this season - was then put through on goal at the other end, but he shot over the top.

With Senegalese forward Alpha Sow on as a late substitute, the visitors bossed the closing stages with some sustained pressure, but neither side could find a winner.

The result takes Taunton onto 30 games without loss in the league, and onto 91 points; they will look to take another step towards 100 points with another away game on Tuesday (ko 7.45pm), against Winchester City.
