TAUNTON Town manager Leigh Robinson wants his side to sign off their “remarkable year” with victory at home to Beaconsfield Town tomorrow (ko 3pm).

The Viridor Stadium hosts the Evo-Stik Southern League Championship Match, contested by the winners of the East and West divisions.

The teams have already met twice this season, in the second qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy in November, with the Peacocks progressing 7-6 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in Taunton and then 1-1 in the replay.

Robinson said: “They’re a good side, and we had two tough games before sneaking through on penalties.

“They have a good record this season and I think they would have finished in the top six in our league.”

The manager expects to have a full-strength side, aside from Pierce Mitchell (who remains out injured), with Ollie Chamberlain returning to fitness.

Robinson added: “We’re determined to sign off with a trophy in front of our fans, to end a remarkable year.

“We also want to extend our unbeaten run into next season.”

That undefeated run stands at 34 league matches, after last Saturday’s win at Cinderford Town (see left).

Matt Wright brought up his seventh and eighth goals in his last four games, while Joel Randall claimed another assist from left wing-back.

“Matt has had an amazing month,” said Robinson.

“It’s reward for all his hard work this season.

“Joel was fantastic again; the last few games have been perfect for him.

“He was patient when he came in; he wasn’t quite ready and we were under pressure to win the title.

“Under less pressure he’s really flourished and become stronger.”

The win also meant Taunton completed the season unbeaten away from home.

Robinson said: “Everyone was really pleased; it’s a record to be proud of, an amazing achievement.

“But there wasn’t too much emphasis on it in the dressing room; the players were just determined to win the game like every other week.

“There’s been no let-up since we won the title.”

WELLINGTON concluded their Toolstation Western League Premier Division season with a 3-0 victory at Cadbury Heath last night.

Goals from Ian Bellinger (2) and Tom Ellis earned the three points, with Andy Campbell seeing red for the hosts.

The result means the Tangerines finish their first season up in the Premier Division on 42 points; they are currently in 14th place but could drop to 16th as teams below them have games in hand.

Bishops Lydeard end their campaign in the First Division with a match away to 16th-placed Malmesbury Victoria tomorrow (ko 3pm).

Lydeard are 11th but could finish in 14th if results go against them in the final week of the season.
