EDNA Verena Clutterbuck (née White) died peacefully in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, on January 14 after suffering a stroke.

Edna lived in Wiveliscombe for most of her 83 years and was an active member of the community.

In her early 20s she helped with the Girl Guides and Brownies, and with her husband, Peter, she had two daughters, Jane and Susan.

At that time she helped with the Wiveliscombe Well Baby clinic, and for many years to follow she volunteered her time and energy, organising Red Cross blood donor sessions, helping with Wivey’s first playgroup, assisting in supplying Pulsford Lodge’s residents with library books and, as a member of the Red Cross, visiting the elderly in their own homes when some of them were younger than herself!

Edna was an active member of many societies and clubs in Wivey, but her chief interest lay with the floral art group, to which she belonged for over 35 years. She enjoyed competition and flower arranging as a hobby.

She was also an active member of St Andrew’s Church, the Mother’s Union and Coffeepot club.

When Peter retired they paid many visits to Canada and Spain to spend time with their daughters and four grandchildren, and their families are grateful for the times they were able to enjoy together.

Following a stroke in 2006 Edna moved from her home in Silver Street to Popham House in Wellington. Peter followed, to reside at The Court next door.

The family would like to thank the carers and nurses at Popham House for their kindness. They helped to make Edna’s last years happy and comfortable.

Edna’s funeral took place at St Andrew’s Church on January 21, and donations in her memory may be made to the Popham House Resident Fund and St Andrew’s Church, c/o Anthony James Funeral Director, Wiveliscombe TA4 2PN.
