Tavistock Livestock Centre had its 91st annual show and sale of Scotch Blackface Rams on Saturday, October 20.
The auctioneers Stags report that a total of exactly 100 Scotch Blackface rams were forward for the Annual Show and Sale on behalf of the West of England Blackfaced Sheep Breeders Association.
With numbers back from 151 the previous year, trade was very brisk from start to finish.
The show was kindly judged by Mr Norman Dalgarno of Truro along with his daughter Mere. They placed a 2T from Messrs WJ & DM Jordan of Gidleigh as their Champion which later went onto sell for 600gns. The Reserve Champion from Messrs PH & GA Cornelius of Camelford rose to 320gns. The Ram Lamb class was won by Mr KJ Watson of Postbridge.
Top price of the day at 680gns for a homebred 2T from Messrs IG Mortimore & Son of Chagford. Topping the Older Rams was a 6T from Mr A Mortimore of Tavistock which rose to 500gns. A total of 14 rams sold in excess of 400gns with another 21 between 300-400gns.
Overall the 2T rams averaged 265gns (£278) with the older rams averaging 202gns (£212).
