Trade for Aberdeen-Angus cattle saw a top price of 5000gns on Saturday April 6.

There was a strong average of more than £3800 for 14 bulls sold. and a healthy demand for both males and females on offer.

Sale leader at 5000gns was a Hallington Wizzard P445 son from A E and C R Bishop, Wokingham, Berkshire, in the form of Warrneho Escalator T701. This May 2017-born bull is out of Warrenho Ethelda P515, herself a full sister to a Stirling reserve champion.

This one carries a Terminal Sire Index of +38 and a Self Replacing Index of +47 and found a home with D and J Pugh, Brecon, Powys.

Continuing a strong day’s trade for the Bishop family was the reserve champion, Warrenho Emmett T711, another son of Wizzard and this time out of Warrenho Emerald P508, a daughter of the 2009 Royal Show champion, Warrenho Dalmigavie G237. This one was native champion at the South of England calf show and went on to sell for 4800gns to one of the biggest buyers on the day S W Clarke, Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire.

Next best at 4700gns was Oakchurch Domino T296 from Jeremy and Ala Price, Staunton on Wye, Herefordshire. Domino, a May 2017-born Oakchurch Equity N141 son, was tapped out as champion under judge Owen Tunney, Cheshire. With a Self Replacing Index of +41, this one sold to Rand Contracting, Royston, Hertfordshire.

Having made the long journey down from Alford, Aberdeenshire, Neil and Mark Wattie sold Tonley Abraham T388 for 4300gns. This April 2017-born son of Blelack Evor H929 is out of the Hurdcott Elixier E215 daughter, Tonley Annie K680 and sold to M C Price, Leominster, Herefordshire.

Two bulls then sold for 3900gns, the first being Westwilmer Juno Eric T564 from Messrs M R and S K Westcott and Son, Minehead, Somerset. By Linton Gilbertines Pride M604, this one was knocked down to E and I Price, Mitchell Troy, Monmouth.

The next at that money was another from the Price family in the form of Oakchurch Duke U332, an Oakchurch Dakota S237 son. Carrying a Self Replacing Index of +57, this one was knocked down to previous buyer, M C Price, Herefordshire.

And it was Jeremy and Ala Price who topped the female trade as well with the 2010-born cow, Oakchurch Frances K010, selling for 3500gns. This ET-bred daughter of Rawburn Transformer is out of Southfield Fortuna. She sold with her November 2018-born heifer calf by Te Mania Berkley B1 to S W Clarke, Staffordshire.

The same buyer also purchased the female champion, Rodmead Evening Tinge U870 from Angus Neish, Warminster, Wiltshire. This February 2018-born heifer is by Glympton Rebellion L549 and is out of a home bred daughter of The Moss Kristof H788. She was knocked down at 2650gns.

Joining her on the trip home to Staffordshire was the reserve female champion, Warrenho Julum Erica T709, a September 2017-born Hallington Wizzard P445 daughter from the Bishop family. This one goes back to one of the herd’s earliest foundation females, Julum Erica of Coulter Gourmet.
