A better number of prime cattle this week met a similar trade to recent weeks with the butchers’ type cattle continuing to sell to a strong trade.

A smart 554kg Limousin x heifer from Messrs. S.M. & J. Blee of St. Martin topped at 194p/kg to Trevarthens of Roskrow.

Two further Limousin x heifers at the same top price from a super run of premium cattle from Messrs. W.T. Bryant & Sons of St. Martin both bought by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station; with top steer from the same farm selling at 192p/kg to Trevarthens.

Top value of the day was a big 780kg Charolais x steer for Messrs. W.H. & L.M. Williams & Son of Allet at 179p/kg realising £1,396 to Trevarthens with heifers hitting a high of £1,215 for a 694kg Limousin x for Messrs. W.S. Gay & Son of St. Allen.

Trade was good on the day with prices in line with other regional markets.

A strong run of Limousin and Shorthorn x cattle from Messrs. J.A. & C.R.N. Baker of Newquay saw a pair of heifers top at £915 and steers sell to £905.

The 1st Suckled Calf Prize Sale contained a good catalogued entry of calves.

A fine run of calves for Mr. P.J. Williams of Stithians picked up two £50 prizes leading with Limousin x steers and heifers to £630 and £515 respectively.

Trade was back on last year due to reduced finished beef prices.
