Wind and rain did not dampen the cheerful atmosphere at another highly successful Christmas Fatstock Show at Frome with increased entries this year.

The show took place on November 27 and saw a quality entry of handled cattle. The show ring was packed with spectators as the final championship line up was judged by Mr Edward Tompkins of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

Young farmer Archie Stamp took the Supreme Championship with his Limousin heifer selling at 345p/kg to White Row Farm Shop, Beckington.

Reserve Champion, an Aberdeen Angus Heifer shown by Kate and Mark Lanfear sold at 260p/kg.

Champion in the Unhandled Cattle section was also taken by MD and KE Lanfear with their Limousin steer selling at 245p/kg.

Champion Cow went to Harry, Humphrey and Albert Howard for their Limousin Cow selling at 138p/kg.

Mark Northcott, cattle auctioneer, said: “The quality of show stock, judged so well by Edward Tompkins, as always was very high and reflected in the premium prices buyers paid – well done to all exhibitors.

"We can always do with more to satisfy demand driven principally by a number of butchers who attend our show every year.”

Tracey Lockyer of Shapwick saw her Champion lambs sell at £90/head whilst the Champion pen of pigs at £184/head was won by Messrs BS Newth & Son, Shepton Mallet.

Calf auctioneer Tim Hector was pleased to see a quality entry judged by Mr Michael Knowles of Claverham with a super British Blue Bull calf from RTJ Voizey & Partners of Yeovil taking the Championship and selling at £400.

The Frome Fatstock Society also presented a cheque for £1,000 to the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.
