UTM PRIME CATTLE

A good entry of prime cattle for the market which included the Christmas Commercial Prize Sale.
Trade was excellent for cattle with demand strong for butchers’ types across the board.
Top price per kilo came for the Class 3 Light Heifer winner at 240p/kg being a Limousin x heifer from Mr. A.M.C. Eddy of St. Erth bought by Harvey Bros. Butchers of St. Ives, Penzance & Newlyn.
She was the pick of five super young cattle from this farm which averaged over 219p/kg.
Premium steer was the Class 2 Heavy winner, a 670kg Limousin x steer from George Richards Farms of Summercourt who also picked up two further prizes, which sold at 226p/kg to Chris Dale of Dales Family Butchers of Helston.
The day also saw one of the highest value animals ever sold through the fat ring at £1,687 (204p/kg) for a 827kg Limousin x steer shown off by Fleur Hinkley of Messrs. J.M. & K. Hinkley of Rejerrah, also bought by Chris Dale.

A grand pair of 22 month old Limousin x steers from Mr. R.L. Northey of Chacewater topped the day at £1,065 with a same age Aberdeen Angus x steer selling well to £920 for Mrs. B.M. Uren of Blackwater.
A lovely younger run of mainly March 2018 born Aberdeen Angus x cattle from Mr. G.F.K. Thomas of St. Agnes saw best pair of steers at £835 and top heifer trio to £795 averaging £785.

SALE OF DAIRY CATTLE & SUCKLERS (24)
This week saw a catalogued sale of 16 Holstein Friesian in-calf heifers on behalf of Messrs. J.S. Rodda & Son of Gulval, Penzance who have finished autumn calving with these following on out of pattern and genuinely sold.
The cattle were one of the best bunches of heifers ever seen sold at the Market and were a credit to Gavin Rodda.
All in-calf to their Pedigree Aberdeen Angus bull, top price came at £1,340 not once but twice for two October 2017 born heifers due December with a fantastic overall average of £1,160.
