SPECIALIST firefighters were called to rescue a horse trapped in barbed wire near Taunton.

The animal was found stuck at a site in Honiton Road, Corfe, at around 3.05pm on Monday (December 9).

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire crews from Taunton along with the specialist rescue team from Bridgwater were mobilised to a report of a horse trapped in barbed wire.

"On arrival at the scene crews reported that the owner had released the horse from the barbed wire.

"The telehandler from was also requested to attend for mechanical lifting gear.

"The horse was righted by the specialist rescue team using animal rescue equipment and left in the care of the owner and a vet."
