THE local community is being asked to submit ideas on how to develop an area of open land in Weymouth.

Tumbledown Farm is approximately 25 acres of land between Radipole Lane and the A354 near Southill.

Weymouth Town Council has launched an online survey to see how residents would like the land to be developed for community use.

The farm is made up of natural grassland, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) nature reserve, a small wooded area, open fields and grazing areas - all of which can be developed for community use.

It also includes buildings, which have limited use at present, but could be replaced with a training centre, office space, a cooking and eating area, restroom facilities and storage space.

A working group has been set up for councillors and officers from Weymouth Town Council and Dorset Council.

Ideas for the site include:

  • Community petting farm
  • Environmental education centre
  • Allotments
  • Horticultural therapy centre
  • Men's Shed
  • Community food growing area
