Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a slightly reduced entry of 128 prime cattle met a very similar trade.

More quality on the heifer side of the auction which reflected in the prices achieved.

Heifers sold to 197.5ppk for a shapely, well fleshed Limousin from SM & SE Jeffery, Morchard Bishop, sold to Puxton Park. SM & SE Jeffery also sold further Limousin heifers at 193.5, 184.5, 184 and 183.5ppk, a Blue heifer at 183.5 and a Charolais heifer at 183.5ppk as well. Top drawer black Limousin heifer at 195.5ppk from CJM Shackleton, Wiveliscombe sold to Puxton Park Butchers again. Plum of a butchers’ heifer, 521kg Charolais from DJ Cossins, Blagdon Hill sold at 189.5ppk to Bonners of Ilminster. Further Charolais at 183.5ppk from L & A Maddock & Co, Wiveliscombe. Further Blue heifer at 183.5ppk again from TE Pocock & Co, Bridgwater.

Steers rose to 179.5ppk for a Blue (624kg) from RC Loveridge, Axminster, who sold another at 178ppk. Further Blue steers at 177ppk from both FG, C & E Tucker, Wedmore and TE Pocock & Co and at 176.5ppk from JPT Reed & Son, Southleigh. Angus steers at 177.5 and 176.5ppk twice from JPT Reed & Son again.

Steers sold to £1,311.40 for a Blue (743kg) from RC Loveridge & Son. Angus steers to £1,295.16 from GG Dyer, Whitestaunton, who sold others at £1,282.56, £1,2587.80 and £1,247.58

Heifers sold to £1,307.55 for a tremendous 758kg Limousin from RC Rowe & Son, Upottery, who sold another at £1,201.31. Further Limousin heifers at £1,270.75, CJM Shackleton and £1,240.30 and £1,220.18 from SM & JE Jeffery. Angus to £1,172.90 from GG Dyer.

65 Barren Cows and Cull Stock Bulls. Auctioneer's comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an almost identical entry in terms of quality met a very similar firm trade. Top was 141.5 for a good red Limousin from CJM Shackleton, Wiveliscombe. Further red Limousin at 136.5ppk from SJS Loveless, Bridport. South Devon at 133.5ppk from DM Ruell, Clatworthy, who also sold a Simmental at 130.5ppk. Hereford cows at 121.5ppk twice from Fraser & Sons, South Haddon and 120.5ppk from DM Ruell again.

Sucklers sold to £1,037.53 for an 883kg Hereford from DJ & VM Norman, Sherborne.

Dairy breeds rose to 126.5ppk for a NZ type Jersey from LC Curtis, Beaminster. Holsteins to 125.5ppk from The Colgrove Partnership, St Austell, who sold others to 118.5ppk. A run of good meat Holsteins from DC Dennis & Son Ltd, Ivybridge, saw the best at 120.5, 119.5 and 118.5ppk. Further better Holsteins at 119.5ppk, DJ, MJ & PW House, Stoke St Gregory and 116.5ppk from LC Curtis again. Good meat cows 110ppk plus.

Dairy breeds sold to £998.96 twice for two 843kg Holsteins from both DC Dennis & Son Ltd and The Colgrove Partnership.

825 Finished Hoggs. Auctioneer's comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report fewer hoggs forward at 825 head sold to a much dearer trade, particularly for the heavier types.

The best sold to 214ppk from A Dagger and MW Ford. Others 211ppk from TC & SCI Pain and SJ Crossman and 210ppk from Rushmore Estate (2x) RR Creed & Son, JR Payne, GR Barnett and Wallmead Farms Partners. On the heavier lambs 27 pens sold at £100/head or over, to a top of £111, £108 and £103 from RR Creed & Son.

Others £110 and £108 from DJ & DA Bloyce; £110 from A Dagger; £109 and £104 (2x) from MJ Patch; £106 from JG & WE Down & Son; £105 from Milborne Wick Farms Ltd and P Coombs Ltd; £104 from SJ Crossman and £101 from S & J Larder. Overall average £92.58.
