Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a medium entry of 78 prime cattle, when best quality was generally in short supply, met another very firm trade.

Top was 205ppk for a shapely, well fleshed (ad-lib) 15m Limousin steer from MJ Tuckett & Partners, Exeter, who sold a Charolais steer at 192.5ppk (13m, ad-lib). Very lean, smart Limousin feeding steers at 196ppk (U-1) 195 (U-2) 193.5 (O+3) and 189 (O+3) from J & DJ Cotterill, Monksilver.

Native steers rose to 186.5ppk for a shapely Devon from Habberfield Bros, North Newton. Dairy bred Angus to 180.5ppk from BA Richards, Williton.

Heifers peaked at 193ppk for a shapely, leaner, white Charolais from RW Fry, Long Sutton, who sold other Charolais leaner at 192.5 and 191.5ppk Limousin heifers at 187 and 181.5ppk. Lightweight Blues at 188.5 (514kg) 186.5 (535kg) and 180.5ppk (530kg) from TE Pocock & Co, Stringston. Good flesh at 186.5 (Limousin) 182.5 and 180.5ppk (Blues) from SER Hunt, Kilve. Very well fleshed Limousin, only 505kg at 184.5ppk from MJ Tuckett & Partners again. Further younger Blue (only 17m) at 183.5ppk from A & JE Fewings, Dunster. Well fed dairy bred Limousin at 181.5ppk from FG Payne & Sons, Wrangway.

Steers sold to £1,330.35 for an Angus from Habberfield Bros. Further Angus £1,306.10 and £1,304.69 from BA Richards. Limousin steers to £1,319.43, dairy bred and well fed from FG Payne & Sons.

Heifers sold to £1,264.47 for a Limousin from SER Hunt. Blue (17m) at £1,201.93 from A & JE Fewings.

105 Barren Cows and Cul Stock Bulls. Auctioneer’s comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an excellent entry of 105 cull cattle met another very strong trade.

Top was 157.5ppk twice for two young Angus cows from MR & SK Westcott & Son, Porlock. Smart Limousin cow at 150.5ppk from CJM Shackleton, Wiveliscombe. Good Simmental cows at 146.5, 144.5 and 137.5ppk from DF Rawlins, Ashill. Further meat Limousin cows at 139.5ppk, JA & G Aldworth, Madford and 138.5ppk, SG Harraway, Mark. South Devon cows rose to 145.5ppk from SG Harraway again. Hereford cows rise to 134.5ppk from J Phillips, Longbridge Deverill.

Sucklers sold to £1,224.74 for an 836kg Simmental from DF Rawlins, who sold another (811kg) at £1,171.90. Angus to £1,149.75, MR & SK Westcott & Son. Limousin cows to £1,130.26, CJM Shackleton. South Devons to £1,115.99, SG Harraway.

Dairy breeds in great demand to 135.5ppk for a best meat Friesian from F & EJ Strawbridge & Sons, Axminster, who sold others at 130.5, 129.5 and 128.5ppk (2x). Best Holsteins to 134.5ppk, MJ Frampton & Sons, Broadwindsor. Others 133.5 and 130.5ppk, DN Herrod, Ilminster. Long run of empty cows from St Austell saw Holsteins to 132.5ppk from The Colgrove Partnership. Others to 127.5ppk again, SJ Perry, East Worlington; 126.5ppk, NF & CO Ellis & Sons, Rampisham and 125.5ppk on three occasions from P & N Tapp, Washford, DN Herrod, Ilminster and DJ Bray, Parracombe. Fleckvieh at 127.5ppk, RF & BA Larcombe, Chardstock.

Dairy breeds sold to £1,139.54 for a massive 908kg boat of a Holstein from P & N Tapp. 831kg Holstein at £1,117.70, MJ Frampton & Sons. The Colgrove Partnership sold at £1,059.53, £1,053.38 and £1,043.31. More heavy cows at £1,006.51, DN Herrod and £1,004.50, DR Clapp, Pitminster.

Stock bulls sold to £1,172.11 for a very well fleshed Angus from Plot Farm Partners, Long Sutton.

1908 Finished Lambs and Hoggs. Auctioneer’s comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a similar large entry of 1868 lambs sold to a similar strong trade for the better quality but generally at lower levels for the heavier and the plain/stale lambs. The best sold to 243 and 238ppk from JE & LP Reason. Others 239ppk from KC & JM Cooke; 237ppk from LM Collins and G Pike and 236ppk from KJ Seymour, IJ Williams, RJ Rood & Son, RA Willcox, T Parris, RW Gould, GJ Cottrell and S Francis.

Heavier lambs sold to £117 from NF Newman. Others £114.50 and £108 from BAV & JE Scriven; £113 from FH & PJ Bailey; £112 and £110 from A Raines; £110 from AGF Lockyer and G Pike; £109.50 from CW Pearce; £109 from N Nation and LJ & JA Tucker and £108 from PB & LM Doble. Overall average £96.16.
