Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a smaller entry of fresh milk produced a strong trade across the board to a top of £2350 for a pedigree home bred heifer from FG Summerhayes & Son. Other pedigree heifers to £2250 and £2020 from JG Morgan and £1950 from DA & AP Gillbard. Commercial heifers £1980 from PD & SA Godfrey.

A small number of cows forward to £1900 from RL & ME Trott. Others £1780 from Ham Farm Partners and £1750 from Deptford Farms.

A good show of incalf heifers due end July to £1620 and £1600 from GJ & FL Robertson. Others due August onwards from CB Powell & Son to £1550, £1520, £1510 and £1500 (3x).

Bulling heifers from GMD & D Clothier £820 (4x). Friesian heifer calves £120 (2x) from GJ & JM Boyer.

782 Store Cattle and Grazing Cows. Auctioneer's comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a huge July entry of 782 store cattle, part of a tremendous 1203 with the stirks, sucklers and grazers. Store cattle throughput a massive 79% up on the year and despite a dramatic drop in quality and size, still £50 per head in front of last year on average. Flesh as dear and very keenly contested to a new recent high of £1430. Quality feeding stores very, very dear following the trade for flesh. Second quality similar. The emergence of third and fourth grade types, as Vendors come to the end of their Spring production cycle, all finding homes but at lower levels reflecting quality. However, some of the bottom end types looked dear in comparison due to their limited potential.

Couples (25 Ewes & 34 Lambs)

A similar entry of 25 ewes with 34 lambs at foot sold to a selective trade. A pen of 8 smart Texels with 13 lambs at foot sold to £162 (£61.71/life) from R Ford. Doubles from the same Vendor sold to £161 and singles to £156 (£78/life) and £134 (£67/life). Overall average £58.22/life. A pen of mainly FM Dorset breeding ewes sold at £83 from R Young.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report strong cull and weaner trade – fat pigs slightly easier. Our entry today sold to 16 different purchasers.

Large entry sold to a good but slightly easier trade. Top of the day £132 from J & R Hopkins and a run of stronger pigs from LE Miller & Son to £128.
