A storming trade across the board for a much larger entry of finished cattle entered for sale with averages and values improving week-on-week.
The Julian Family from Summercourt leading the way again this week with their four Limousin x heifers leading the averages all 225p/kg+ to a top call of 231p/kg for a 616kg heifer, this one bought by Chris Dale of Dales Family Butchers, Helston, the others going to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station and R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Rosrkow for two.
A big 789kg Charolais x heifer from Mr. E.G. Benney of Mawnan Smith stood overall top making £1,491 to David King of Exeter.
Nice to see a variety of different breed steers in the top prices with Messrs. R.E, G.L. & M.R. Body of Hayle selling a Charolais x to a top value of £1,483 and a Limousin x at £1,476, both also to David King.
A further Limousin x steer at 618kg took the premium for Messrs. Body selling at 216p/kg to Harvey Bros. Butchers of St. Ives, Penzance & Newlyn.

A superb entry of well over 60 cull cows, more than any other market in the south west of England this week, met a very strong trade from an excellent attendance of buyers.
Super young cows from Mr. A.J. Jelbert of Mitchell saw Limousin crosses reach 157p/kg and 153p/kg to David King and David Ellis respectively.
Top value went to an 889kg Aberdeen Angus x from Messrs. T.A. & F.A. Jenkin of Newbridge at £1,138, with top value on the dairy side going to a Friesian from Mr. P.J. Harvey of Kea realising £1,026, both bought by David King.
Premium black & white for Messrs. W.C. & W.R. Martin of St. Buryan selling to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh at 131p/kg, with other dairy breeds a great trade with Guernseys to 118p/kg and an Ayrshire making 116p/kg.

Another good entry for mid-August contained mainly younger cattle with quality and strength rewarded by strong demand fuelled by improved finished values.
A run of 14 British Blue x steers from Mr. C.G. Andrew of St. Dennis saw dearest five at £1,055.
Forward young Devons around 16 months old for Mr. M. Wilkin of Mount Hawke saw top steer pair hit £990, with same age Longhorn crosses for Messrs. I.D. & S.S. Backway of St. Eval at £940.
A super entry of Charolais x youngsters from Messrs. G.S. Skinner & Son of St. Ervan saw a bunch of five steers around 10 months old at £995 with dearest five heifers at £815.
Super youngstock from Messrs. W.J. & J.C. Paull of St. Columb Minor and a run of young Limousin x steers for Mr. K.R.A. Pascoe of Helston seeing an end of April-born pair at £605.
Overall top heifers at £950 were a trio of 17 month old Limousin crosses from Messrs. I.D. & S.S. Backway.
Another nice run of British Blue crosses from McCardell & Thompson Ltd of Summercourt saw their heifers selling especially well with a 16 month old pair to £860.
