Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an increased entry of 111 prime cattle, when quality was vastly improved. Some very smart cattle on offer and trade was also dearer as buyers competed well to secure stock.

Steers topped at 214.5ppk for a top drawer red Limousin from TR Michell, bought by Palmers Quality Butchers Ltd, Weston Super Mare. Good Blue steers from TR Michell at 202, 199.5 and 195ppk, who also sold Hereford steers at 188 and 187.5ppk. Very shapely, lean black Limousin steer at 209.5ppk from BJ Pepperd, Westonzoyland. Smart pure bred Charolais steer at 205ppk from AS Cowling, Clatworthy. Shapely lean red Limousin steer at 201ppk from JM Darby, Bishops Lydeard. Good well fleshsed Limousin at 196.5ppk from CJ Sage, Monkton Wyld. Suckler bred Angus at 195 and 194.5ppk from MF Bathard & Sons, Gaunts Earthcott and 195ppk from F & M House & Son, Highbridge.

Heifers topped the day at 218ppk for another top drawer red Limousin from TR Michell, again bought by Palmers Quality Butchers Ltd. Similar heifers from the same farm at 211.5ppk to Stillmans (Somerset) Ltd and 202.5ppk to Greendale Farm Shop, Woodbury Salterton. Good Blue heifer from TR Michell at 199 and a well finished Hereford at 195.5ppk. Very shapely red Limousin heifer at 204.5ppk from JM Darby & Son again. Very similar heifer from RW Darby & Sons, Bridgwater also at 204.5ppk. Better type Limousin heifers at 202 and 201.5ppk from SER Hunt, Kilve, who sold a 16m barley Blue at 196.5ppk. Suckler bred Herefords at 192.5 and 188.5ppk from RW Darby & Sons again. Angus to 189.5ppk from F & M House again. Others to 188ppk from G Sloman, Taunton.

Steers sold to a tremendous £1,491.37 for a 787kg Limousin from R & G Speed, Axminster. Further Limousin steers £1,339.69, BJ Pepperd and £1,308.51, JM Darby. Herefords to £1,337.72 and £1,225.76 from TR Michell, who sold Blue steers to £1,323.10. Angus to £1326 from F & M House & Son. Friesian steers to £1,127.10 from GW & GM Long, Chardstock.

Heifers rose to an excellent £1,322.07 for a Limousin from F & M House & Son. Further Limousins to £1,308.80 from JM Darby. Welsh Black at £1,237.94 also from JM Darby. Stabiliser at £1,202.65 from DM Ruell, Clatworthy. Angus at £1,193.80 from G Sloman and £1,190.40 from Vale Farm Partnership. Others £1,182.48, F & M House & Son. 59 BARREN COWS & CULL STOCK BULLS

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an increased entry of 59 cull cattle met a cracking trade. A much better show in terms of quality but trade much keener to source stock.

Top was 153.5ppk for a well fleshed and very shapely red Limousin cow from E & IW Studley, Bradpole, who sold another good red Limousin cow at 140.5ppk. Good Blue at 129.5ppk from AJV Welch & Sons, Ashill.

Native cows peaked at 141.5ppk for a pedigree Angus from CJ & JLM Hutchings & Sons, Brompton Regis, who sold others at 139.5 and 134.5ppk. Pure Devon also at 139.5ppk from NH Hasell & Son, Holcombe Rogus, who sold another at 123.5ppk.

Sucklers sold to £1,106.74 for a 721kg Limousin from E & IW Studley. £1,036.49 was realised for a 743kg Angus from CJ & JLM Hutchings & Sons, who sold another at £963.62 (681kg).

Dairy breeds rose to 139.5ppk for a young Holstein from FG Summerhayes & Sons, Upottery. Really good meat Holsteins at 137.5, 133.5, 130.5, 124.5 and 120.5ppk (2x) from Newley Farm, Bishops Hull. Well covered Friesian at 135.5ppk from W Read Partnership, Taunton. Better type Holstein cows 130.5ppk, JF Legg & Son, Middlezoy; 128.5 and 127.5ppk, CJ & JA Reed, Bridgwater; 127.5, 123.5 (2x) 122.5 and 120.5ppk, The Colgrove Partnership, St Austell and 122.5 and 119.5ppk, CL Southcott, Wellington. Dairy breeds sold to a massive £1,221.00 for a grand 888kg Holstein from Newley Farm, who sold another 833kg at £1,112.06. Friesian at £1,040.64, W Read Partners. Further Holsteins £998.45, New Farm Bowdens Ltd; £985.58, CJ & JA Reed and £966.45, The Colgrove Partnership.
