Cornwall’s branch of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) are staging an online quiz and auction to raise funds for the charity.

So far in 2020 almost £30,500 has been given in grants to help 40 farming families in the county by the charity. Donations and some fundraising, limited due to Covid-19, in Cornwall has raised £18,000.

The charity hopes that the Grand Cornwall Christmas Online Quiz & Auction will help to top up these funds.

Brian Harvey, head of agriculture at PKF Francis Clark, will be quiz master for the evening.

Brian said: “We haven’t been able to get together in person to hold fundraising events for a while, so this is the next best thing and important to ensure we can help the RABI in their work.

“Cornwall has long been a net beneficiary from the RABI, with more funding coming into the county to support Cornish farmers who find themselves in need than we are able to raise.”

Auctioneer Edward Buckland is hosting the online auction from their website in aid of the cause. Bidding will begin the week before the event, with all lots closing during the evening of the event.

There are several lots available that include a pedal John Deere tractor donated by Smallridge Brothers, Cornish cider from Haywood Farm, a free range Bronze turkey courtesy of Treway Farm and a large meat box provided by James Kittow Butcher & Grazier.

Edward said: “We’ve got 25 fantastic lots that have been kindly donated so far, many would make superb Christmas gifts or why not just treat yourself?

“Please do look at the lots, register and bid generously to support this incredibly valuable farming help charity. If you would like to donate a lot, please email”

The quiz is free for all to enter and will begin at 8pm on Friday, December 4.
