Fire crews were called to rescue a horse after it got stuck trying to leap over a gate, writes Ollie Buckley.

Rescue crews renamed the hapless 12-year-old ‘Red Rum’ after it became stranded over the gate following the ambitious escape attempt.

Fire crews arrived at the scene in Clapton-in-Gordano, Bristol, at just after 9.30am on April 17 to find the horse stuck with its front legs over the gate.

The vet was called while fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the horse.

Bedminster Fire Station tweeted: “When 12 years old Bram believe it is #RedRum...

"Luckily we and @AFRSPortishead saved the day. #notjustfires #animalrescue.”
