Police are looking for witnesses following a fire that broke out in a stable block near Martock on Wednesday night (May 26).

The fire broke out at stables off Pulpitsway Drove in Kingsbury Episcopi.

Officers have now found that a gate leading into the field where the stables sit was forced open.

Fortunately the stables were empty of horses at the time of the fire.

At 10.34pm on Wednesday night fire control received a report of a fire in the open, but it was not known what was burning.

A fire engine from Martock was mobilised and while it was enroute, the incident commander reported a large amount of smoke in the area.

Two more fire engines from Yeovil and Somerton and a water bowser were immediately sent to the scene.

There, fire fighters found a wooden stable block, 5m x 10m, on fire.

Using an attack jet, hose reel jet and breathing apparatus, they brought the fire under control.

They handed the scene back to the property owners and the police.

Police are now encouraging witnesses to come forward, following their findings.

Anyone who saw what happened or saw people acting suspiciously are asked to call 101 quoting the reference number 5221116306.
