Dairy Cattle (58): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an excellent entry for a January market, but numbers were well down on last week’s record entry.

The trade remained firm for all but the older cows on offer. If anything, the best were slightly dearer, although £2000 remains a barrier for most.

Jeff Morgan from Tewkesbury secured the top price of the day for a home bred pedigree heifer at £2060. Others to £2000 from Messrs M & K Churchill & Son; £1950 and £1850 from Mr RH Webb; £1920 and £1700 from Panda Holsteins; £1900 Treludderow bred and £1790 from Mr HR Lewis, Carmarthen; £1750 and £1680 from Mr PA Cleeve, Bude in Cornwall; £1720 from Mr R Willcox and £1710 from HLJ27. Breeding Ewes (176): Another good entry of 176 breeding ewes sold to a decent trade. Top price of £120 (x2) from Mr JC Salmon. Older ewes to £100 from the same Vendor and Mr CL Popham.

Goats (63): Strong nannies sold to £89.50 from Messrs DCW & DA Verney and £80 from Childhay Farming Ltd. Boer wethers sold to £59 from Hardwick Bros. Overall average £63.54.

Pigs (271): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a very large entry of 271 pigs, sold to an easier trade for all presented.

Cull Sows & Boars (28): A reasonable entry of cull sows and boars sold to a difficult trade. Top price was £96 from Messrs LE Miller & Son. Other big sows to £90 and £83 from Mr J Parry. Largest of the cull boars to £95 from Mr H Tongue.

Weaners (101): A huge entry of weaners sold to a very difficult trade. The best shapely white pigs sold to £40 from Mr CJ Love and £39 from Mr D Gerring. Small and coloured weaners very hard to place.

Forward Stores (136): A relatively good quality entry however much less interest from purchasers, when purchasers filled their orders well before the end of the auction. Strong types to £101 from Messrs LE Miller & Son and Messrs P & TA Reakes. Others to £100 again from Messrs Miller and Mr J Jones. £99 was achieved by Messrs FH Chave & Son and £96 from Mrs T Taylor.
