A SUNNY day heralded another impressive antiques auction at Greenslade Taylor Hunt with international buyers as well as those from the locality securing some fine pieces.
Would-be purchasers from Holland were enchanted by a group of 18th Century Delft tiles depicting Biblical scenes.
Some of these had decorated the cover of the catalogue. An internet battle ensued to secure the group of 26 tiles. Eventually a Dutch bidder ensured they would be returning home with a successful bid of £1,010.

Closer to home a couple of room bidders vied for possession of a 17 stone diamond cluster ring. This was bought for £900.
A robust silver section witnessed a number of notable prices including a mighty bid of £1,650 for a late Victorian silver oval two-handled tray by well-regarded Birmingham maker Elkington.
A William IV silver King’s pattern part table service was bought by a room bidder for £1,170.
A delightful Anthony Elson limited edition silver, silver gilt and enamel surprise egg in an egg cup made £305. The item had originally arrived at Sedgemoor Auction Centre for the general sale, but eagle-eyed valuer Simon Rayner spotted its potential and it was switched to the premium antiques sale with great effect.
The sheer scope of what is offered at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, was evidenced In an eclectic ceramics section where animals proved the main attraction.
Thoughts of Christmas might seem a tad too early, but one buyer has already secured their Bronze Turkey if not for the festive table than as a decorative addition to their home.

Two cat lovers battled it out on a couple of phone lines to secure a group of nine Beswick cat figures plus a “stray” Royal Worcester “Tabby” figure. These made £395.
An evocative watecolour of Oyster Dredging in Pevensey Bay was bought by an online bidder, who paid £762.
