The house is Listed Grade II* ('particularly important buildings of exceptional interest and of outstanding importance'). This atmosheric and fascinating historic property, beautifuly restored, has until recently been run as a boutique hotel and restaurant. There is also a three bedroom guest cottage. The house is built of blue Lias with Ham stone details and mullioned leaded glass windows. The interior has good 16th and 17th centuries features; including Ham stone fireplaces and vertical paneling of pre-Elizabethan date, mostly in elm, and a Tudor staircase of oak and elm. In the early 20th century many early features from other buildings were incorporated, including early 18th century panelling in the drawing room and 17th century paneling in the snug. A trigger lock on an 18th century door is of particular historical significance. In the late 20th centuries a reproduction 18th century staircase and neo-Jacobean plasterwork was introduced to the east part of the house.

In about 2000 the house was extensively restored in conjunction with English Heritage and Ellis & Co of Shepton Mallet, using traditional methods and techniques along with modern services and technology.

The parkland and gardens have also been extensively restored and re-landscaped. Of particular note are the Edwardian walled frontage and the 'ladies' garden with box, roses and lavender. The Victorian greenhouse has recently been rebuilt to the original design
