HISTORICAL NOTE

There are records for a settlement of land made in the 19th year of Edward I by Serlo, Baron de Frogyswill on Peter, son of Simon Molland in free marriage with Serlos daughter which was witnessed by Robert and Richard de Bradley inferring that Bradleys may have been living at Bradley Down in about 1290. The neighbouring farm Great Bradley was presumably the family home and the houses of West, Middle and Lower Bradley were similarly to down land given to members of the family. The walls of the original part of the house may possibly date from the 13th/14th Century but are believed to be at least as early as the 16th/17th Century. The house was clearly much enlarged and gentrified in the 18th and 19th Centuries creating a predominantly Georgian house that we see today. Further records show the house being lived in by a farmer with a big family called Towser around 1890 and whom put in the stained glass window by the staircase. There are also records that Mr Gridleston, retired house master from Charter House making present drive instead of the old one leading to Great Bradley.
