Village World was established in 1998 from a showroom in Staplegrove, Taunton, selling many unique and unusual pieces of furniture from around the world. This included tables, chairs, Chinese ornaments and a wide range of other beautiful home furniture and accessories. With the premises lease coming to an end; the business needed a new location.

In 2004, Emma Purvis purchased Wrantage Mills, after owning Woodlands Farmhouse; the care home next door. She comments: “I’ve been in wrantage on and off since 1982 and Mill has always been an eyesore, it has taken all this time to decide what to do with this vast building. I didn’t want it to become an industrial building which could have disturbed the quiet enjoyment that the care home next door has enjoyed.”Somerset County Gazette: Visit this style haven in Wrantage and beautifully furnish your home

In October of last year, friends; Emma and Mandy decided to solve both their problems by combining Emma’s venue with Mandy’s furniture business. After major renovation with Emma’s Partner, Paul Moore working tirelessly to transform the ‘ugly duckling’ into what they feel is now a ‘beautiful swan’; the work was completed in just four months and Village World has moved to the middle floor of Wrantage Mills above the existing Animal feed and pet shop.

Plans for the future are to have a kitchen showroom on the third floor of the building; they will be joined soon by Hillview Kitchens; a company based in Knapp, owned by locals Wayne and Laura Player who design and build bespoke. Emma and Paul are looking for other small local businesses who would like to join their venture as their aim is make Wrantage Mills a destination for homes and interiors. Emma and Paul feel it is also the perfect location for a ‘Farm shop’ but we will have to watch this space!Somerset County Gazette: Visit this style haven in Wrantage and beautifully furnish your home

Since moving to Wrantage Mills, Village World are now selling some brilliant sofa ranges. “We have always been known for tables and since introducing our sofa range, they have proved really popular” Mandy comments. Emma adds: “We have some fabulous British-made sofa ranges. They are bespoke, customers can choose their own colours with co-ordinating cushions making them unique.” If you are trying to find the perfect sofa for your house, then both Emma and Mandy are pretty sure they will be able to find the perfect piece of furniture for you.

Textures are a big interior trend at the moment and Village World have added some brilliant new pieces to their collection. “The industrial range is definitely a current interior trend, with its clean lines and modern look” Mandy says, while also noting that a mixture of textures such as slate and wood are popular.

“If someone wants interior ideas, we will come out to your home to offer you an interior design service as well” Mandy tells us. “If people wanted a space redone, then we would be able to advise them.” Emma adds “This design service is perfect for anyone looking to redecorate a room or an entire house, as Village World can source almost any piece of furniture or home accessory that you are looking for” Mandy comments: “if we can’t source it, I don’t believe anyone around here could.”

A new and incredibly exciting home accessory that village world now stock is the battery powered Luminara Candles. These beautiful scented or non-scented candles are perfect for any home. Emma explains: “I think it’s going to be one of our most popular accessories. I think a main advantage is that you can put the candles on a timer, so if you go away, they can come on at certain parts of the day, so people think you are home. For security, it’s a nice little touch, or you can set them to light ready for when you arrive in from work offering you a really warm welcome home.”Somerset County Gazette: Visit this style haven in Wrantage and beautifully furnish your home

The scents are also incredibly appealing and as Mandy explains, “people like a nice scent in their home nowadays. Candles and diffusers are popular. The Luminara candles have a lovely smell, with a range of fragrances to choose from.”

Village World can provide everything you could need for a home, so if you are looking to renovate your house, why settle for one style? Why not try everything and see what works best? Emma notes: “I think the beauty of Village World is that it is always changing. Once stock sells we replace it with different items – everything is unique.”
