HOME buyers looking for a "fixer-upper" property should head to Slough, research suggests.

Property website Zoopla analysed homes across Britain which had been listed on its website and included the word "requires" alongside terms such as "refurbishment", "fixing", "overhaul", "tlc", "reconfiguration", "development", "planning" and "fixer-upper", among others.

It identified Slough as Britain's top hotspot for renovations with 3.32% of properties requiring work, looking at listings covering the past year.

Plymouth, Greenock, Bristol and Salford were also found to have particularly high concentrations of homes needing work, potentially offering bargains for buyers willing to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in.

Zoopla found that overall, 0.86% of properties it analysed described homes as needing some work.

The website said Scotland has the highest concentrations of properties for sale which are in need of work, accounting for 1.49% of properties listed across the country.

Wales has the next highest, at 0.98%, followed by South West England, where 0.92% of properties for sale are in need of renovation.

At the other end of the spectrum, buyers in the East Midlands may struggle to find a property in need of renovation, as Zoopla found only 0.57% of homes for sale there were described as needing work.

Somerset County Gazette:

This was followed by London, where 0.62% of homes needed work.

Within London, Zoopla found Redbridge has the highest proportion of properties for sale needing work at 1.52%, followed by Newham at 1.25% and Lewisham at 1.04%.

Waltham Forest has the smallest proportion of properties in need of renovation in London at 0.48%. Greenwich holds the second lowest percentage (0.52%) and Kensington and Chelsea is third (0.56%).

Lawrence Hall, a spokesman for Zoopla, said there are renovation hotspots in many parts of Britain.

He continued: "It's worth bearing these locations in mind if you're considering moving to a new area and don't mind putting some work into a property to turn it into your dream home."
