- Hestercombe Summer Family Trail: Gertrude’s Garden

OVER 100 years ago, it was the task of plantswoman Gertrude Jekyll to fill Hestercombe’s Formal Garden with a dazzling display of plants, climbers and shrubs.

Follow in her footsteps as you work your way around this summer trail by filling your trail sheet with the flowers you find.

From lavender to irises and clematis to gladioli, you’ll discover plenty of plants to grow your own garden design with.

Head back to Hestercombe House after completing the trail to visit the Portman Room, where you can find items that once belonged to the great gardener Gertrude Jekyll herself.

Pick up a trail sheet when you arrive at the Visitor Reception.

These four works were all written within a single decade, by Italian composers at the height of their powers, yet each is as different from the other as the works of Brahms and Wagner.
