THE eighth Taunton Literary Festival is about to burst into a cavalcade of words in November.

The programme of events has been launched and it will include a wide range of authors across number of subjects.

Headline names include Dame Jenni Murray of Women’s hour fame talking about her personal choice of great women in history, Adam Kay about his life as a junior doctor (This is Going to Hurt), Folk legend Peggy Seeger (The First Time Ever…), Paddy Ashdown on standing up to Hitler.

Television presenter, Dan Cruickshank will talk about the emergence of the Skyscraper and former Newsnight presenter and election guru Peter Snow, along with his wife Anne MacMillan, talking about stories of heroism and Adam Hart-Davies shares with us the story of natural science through fifty of its greatest experiments.

The man behind the festival which will run from November 3-24, is Lionel Ward who runs Brendon Books in Bath Place in Taunton.

He said: “I am really pleased with the variety we have got this year. We have the big names but we also have a lot of interesting other talks. There is a great deal of variety and breadth to the festival. It has become a more complete festival with a number of events complementing each other.

“I would advise people if they want to attend any event to book early.”

Among the interesting talks there will be two on cricket.

The first, given by Graham Lloyd, concerns Gary Sobers Six Sixes record of 1968 and a controversy over the ball that was used.

The Second is the Cricket Ball by philosopher Gary Cox who explores the multi-faceted life of the cricket ball.
