PRE-JUDGING television shows happens all the time.

As a viewer, you see the trailer and you have to decide there and then do you watch it?, Do you record it? Or watch on catch up? Or even watch it?

When Elementary first launched in 2012 it was on at the same time of Sherlock on the BBC.

So when I first saw the trailer for Elementary on Sky Living, I decided to give it the widest of berths as I thought it would be inferior to Sherlock.

I left it alone for one season, then one evening I thought how good or bad is this show?

So I downloaded the pilot episode and watched.

It must have been good enough as I have since then watched all the shows up and to including the current Season 6 on Sky Witness (formerly Sky Living).

The main characters are Sherlock played by Jonny Lee Miller and Dr Joan Watson played by Lucy Liu.

They share a number of traits and qualities as the Sherlock and Watson we all know but there are little changes which give it a different twist.

At the start of season one, I felt the writing while clever, seemed to get to a point in the early episodes, where it would conclude as quickly as possible.

I felt the writers must have thought the American audience would not get it and just wrapped it up ASAP, without really explaining how the crime could have been solved as we the viewers never saw any of the clues.

Since then the programme has found its stride and gets better and better. The storylines move along well and even the sub stories which run all the time are not over looked and are kept up to date.

I really enjoy Jonny Lee Miller’s version of Sherlock. He is a collection of a million ticks which are expressive and intelligent for a character who is familiar but also very different.

Is it better than Sherlock on the BBC? It is in some senses a completely different show. The main reason is there have been 138 episodes of Elementary in five years and for Sherlock there have been 12 episodes and one special in 7 years.

For me as a viewer this is so important. To make a good show is one thing, to have a hit show is another, but to produce episode after episode and keep the quality high is what all series aim for when on air.

While I will always watch Sherlock and it is quality television, I cannot wait for ever. I need and want to watch a television show each season and with a number of episodes to enjoy.

It is Elementary what you should do to get your Sherlock fix.
