ORGANIC art created by drawing and painting in an automatism style will be on display at Taunton Library this month.

The graphic designer responsible for this exhibition is Eliza Boyd.

This will be her first solo showcase and it is one which she is looking forward to as it will put her work before a real audience and not one behind a computer screen.

Speaking about her art, Eliza said: “Automatism in art is where as an artist you are not in control of your creative process. It is like an outside force is directing your hand or brush and you see the outcome.

“Automatism is something which is normally associated with fine art and not illustration. But this is the style of working I enjoy.

“For me this is important as I see it as being an organic way to work and is a style which I am comfortable with when I work.”

Eliza hopes this exhibition will allow people to see and enjoy something different.

The drawings cover a variety of subjects and element. One called “The Pick Pokkit Family” arises from psychology and the dynamics of relationships in a family.

What you will see at the exhibition called The Outsider Illustrator is the whole spectrum of Eliza’s work dating back to when she was in Brighton University where she was studying for a Fine Arts Degree.

There is an artistic thread to see which is how Eliza’s work has developed from when she first start to the style of work she is producing today.

What you will notice is a black and white period which was a phase in between her colour pictures.

Eliza explained a number of pieces of the 50 works she has produced will be up for sale.

This includes a number of artist proofs done in graphite or charcoal.

The Outsider Illustrator exhibition is at Taunton Library from September 3-15.

The library is closed on September 13 due to staff training.
