A TEENAGER from Taunton has followed in her mother’s footsteps by winning a dance competition-25 years after her mum won her title.

In 1993, Sara-Jane Boyland (now Coleman) was runner-up prize in the Gold Bar Nationwide competition( disco dancing). Her achievement appeared in The County Gazette in 1993 and then a week before her daughter won her title by chance in Looking Back.

Fast forward to 2018 and 16-year-old Tia Coleman scooped the Taunton Young Dance of the Year at the Taunton Festival of the Arts which was held at Queen’s College

Tia who attends the Mountway School of dancing in Taunton is also a pupil at The Space-The Somerset Performing Arts Centre for Education.

Her dad and Sara’s husband, Stuart Coleman said: “It was really quite bizarre to have seen to the old photograph of Sara in the paper and then a week later Tia wins her award.

“We were all chffed to bits he won. We would have been delighted if she had got a place but winning it was fantastic.”

Tia has already has stage experience, appearing in Mary Poppins as stage by The Space and is part of the chorus line in the pantomime Cinderella on at The Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre until December 23
