IT'S a long way from Canada to Wiveliscombe but fans of The Allison Lupton Band are glad the group will make the journey.

The Ontario based ensemble will play the next Silver Street Sessions concert on Thursday, July 21 July at Cotleigh Brewery in Ford Road.

Allison’s band is composed of a stellar group of musicians, including renowned veteran of the Canadian folk scene Ian Bell , acclaimed bass player Denis Rondeau, Grand North American Fiddle Champion Shane Cook, and CCBA’s Mandolin Player of the Year Andrew Collins with Allison herself on lead vocals and flute.

Delighting listeners with their beautiful renditions of traditional and original songs and tunes, the group features exquisite, three-part vocal harmonies and captivating arrangements highlighting flute, fiddle, guitar, accordion, mandolin, banjo and acoustic bass.

This concert is part of a tour that takes Allison and her band the length of the UK from the Isle of Lewis off the North West of Scotland to Wiveliscombe in the South West of England, this tour is made possible in part by a grant from The Ontario Arts Council’s National and International Touring programme.

Allison's interest in music began in the rural Ontario community of West Zorra Township where she learned to sing harmony in the church choir. She got her start playing folk music with the band Killiecrankie which was regularly featured on CBC Radio’s legendary Max Ferguson Show.

Allison has performed at various festivals and venues including Mariposa, Lunenburg, and CBC’s Vinyl Café. In 2008, Allison was honoured with a nomination in the “Traditional Singer of the Year” category by the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Most recently, Allison’s song “One More Day” was the English overall winning song in the 2015 Folk Music Ontario’s Songs From the Heart competition.
