ILMINISTER jazz fans are in for a rare treat on October 13, when two of the world’s top clarinettists take to the stage for a concert that puts together the best in the USA and the best in the UK.

Julian Stringle is reckoned to be the best clarinettist in this country, while Ken Peplowski is a hugely respected American clarinettist who has played with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and Benny Goodman’s last band.

Joining Ken and Julian will be awardwinning pianist Craig Milverton and his eponymous trio.

The line-up raises the distinct possibility of some thrilling clarinet duels between the players – such musical ‘encounters’ have frequently been fought by the top players throughout the history of jazz.

These should perhaps be seen as more a challenge to mimic, to blend together and maybe out do each other in terms of ideas, technique, phrasing and stamina.

Concert organiser Tony Hayward says this will be ‘unmissable’ for jazz fans.

Tickets £18 (pre-show supper £14 at 7pm, booked in advance).
