THIS week’s Tracks of my Life is with Somerset author, Joss Langford

Track 1: REM - Nightswimming

Our generation grew up with cassettes, CDs and ‘portable stereos’. This first one is part of the soundtrack of my last year at school.

Track 2: Massive Attack - Protection

I worked in the dance music industry for a few years in the 90’s. The music that came from the Bristol trip hop scene was striking. It is evocative of those times and still strangely current for me.

Track 3: The Jam - Town Called Malice

We wanted this as the first track at our wedding, but we were persuaded it wouldn’t be seemly. It played second in the end and I can’t remember the first song.

Track 4: Bob Marley - Three Little Birds

It has been amazing to watch my children discover the world of music. They can use my old iPod at an age when I would not have been allowed near my dad’s vinyl. I often hear this exuberantly joyful song being played.

Track 5: Bob Dylan - Not Dark Yet

I could have put almost any Dylan track, perhaps this is a slightly morose choice.

It’s a beautiful contemplation of his own mortality; regretful but never losing hope.
