The famous Coronation Street cobbles will have a new member strutting their famous stuff on them as Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding is set to star in the show.
The 33-year-old singer and actress is set to make a guest appearance in the soap this summer, as a feisty new character who will clash with Corrie’s resident troublemaker Tracy Barlow, played by Kate Ford.
Sarah said: “I am extremely excited to be joining Coronation Street. As a fan of the show it is a huge honour for me to join the cast. I can’t wait to get started!”
Details of her storyline are being kept under wraps, but Sarah begins filming in May and will appear in four episodes over the summer.
However, she’s not the only star to have set their sights on a soap cameo.
See who else has starred alongside some of our favourite soap characters:
Coronation Street: Cheryl Fernandez-Versini
X Factor judge and former Girls Aloud star Cheryl made her debut in December 2013. She starred in the soap as part of ITV’s Text Santa charity appeal, and appeared as a friend of Michelle Keegan’s character, Tina McIntyre.
Home And Away: Ed Sheeran
The Make It Rain singer soaked up the Australian sunshine on the Palm Beach set of the Channel 5 soap as he filmed a scene with Emily Symons, who plays much-loved character Marilyn Chambers. Ed – who is currently on tour Down Under – will appear as himself in the soap, in an episode to air later this year, but details of the storyline that brings him to Summer Bay are being kept under wraps. He told Australia’s News.com: “It’s an Australian institution. It’s always on in my local chip shop. I got asked to do it and it sounded like it could be fun.”
Coronation Street: Sir Ian McKellen
In 2005 viewers were treated to watching McKellen in a three-week stint playing conman, Mel Hutchwright.
Coronation Street: Sir Cliff Richard
Turn the clock back to 1997 and if you looked very carefully, you’d have spied Sir Cliff as an extra, having a quiet pint with Andy McDonald (played by Nicholas Cochrane).
Neighbours: Lily Allen
In 2009 singer Lily Allen appeared in Neighbours, playing herself. In her cameo, she starred on a radio station in the show, PirateNet.
Coronation Street: Prince Charles
In honour of Coronation Street’s 40th birthday, Prince Charles made a cameo by enjoying a drink in local boozer The Rovers Return.
Neighbours: Paula Abdul
Former USA X Factor judge and singer Paula Abdul starred alongside Alan Fletcher, who plays Karl Kennedy. Her stint had a slightly romantic storyline attached to it as Karl revealed his long-time crush on her.
EastEnders: Boris Johnson
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, starred in EastEnders in 2009 as himself when character Peggy Mitchell ran for local election. His appearance wasn’t without criticism though, and the BBC released a statement at the time reading: “Boris Johnson makes a cameo appearance in EastEnders as part of the storyline where Peggy Mitchell stands as an independent candidate in a fictional local election. His appearance is compatible both with BBC editorial guidelines and the principle of due impartiality”
Coronation Street: Peter Kay
In January 2004 comedian Peter Kay appeared as the character Eric, who tried to woo the Rovers Return’s landlady Shelley (played by Sally Lindsay).
Coronation Street: Status Quo
Poor Les Battersby (played by Bruce Jones) got more than he bargained for when he spotted band Status Quo and asked them for a signature.
