Michael B Jordan definitely packs a punch in Creed, as the film’s first official trailer shows.
The Fruitvale Station star plays Adonis Johnson – the son of boxing champion Apollo Creed – in the seventh Rocky Balboa film.
As he follows in his father’s footsteps, even donning patriotic shorts, Adonis seeks out Apollo’s retired arch nemesis-turned-friend Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and asks him to be his trainer and mentor to prepare him for an all-important match in the ring.
Apollo was played by Carl Weathers in the first four Rocky films.
The trailer harks back to the previous films, with Michael seen running around Philadelphia in a black beanie and grey sweats like Sly previously did.
Sly wrote on Instagram: “Here is CREED The movie is coming to Thanksgiving. Michael B Jordan playing the son of Apollo Creed Bonds with Rocky Balboa… we loved making it.”
Creed, which also stars Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad, is the first film in the Rocky franchise since 2006′s Rocky Balboa.
Ryan Coogler, who previously directed Michael in the indie drama Fruitvale Station, reunites with the actor on this film, which will be released in US cinemas on November 25.
