Dear Editor,
A week after Rupert Lowe (ex-Reform gang) and his 'Restore Britain' party promised to deport hundreds of thousands of people a year, Farage's Reform now promises to deport 288,000 a year (why a precise number?) with five daily flights planned to deport people from this country to destinations unnamed and with no certainty of being granted the right to land.
As The Guardian recently noted, Reform UK would create a Trump model ICE-style agency to aggressively deport hundreds of thousands of people, as well as terminating the status of those with indefinite leave to remain.
It would also ban the conversion of churches into mosques and fund a radical expansion of stop-and-search, so says Reform’s new home affairs spokesperson, Zia Yusuf: the deradicalisation project Prevent would also be redrawn to focus on Islamist extremism.
So the present forecasted Farage takeover would:
- Get our own Trump-like ICE ‘Gestapo’;
- Have a "hostile environment" for all migrants, including those legally settled here, and their children who were born here and were automatically British citizens;
- Have legalised violence imposed on anyone the state presumes to be ‘an enemy’ - rule by terror, when spread to ethnic minorities, the LGBTQ+ community, trade unionists, academics/bloggers, disabled and neurodivergent people, etc.;
- Have evangelical Christianity imposed by law;
- Make full-blown fascism the order of the day;
- Create economic meltdown.
So what are the other main parties saying in response?
Apart from my Polanski-led Green Party campaigning like mad to beat Reform in the Gorton and Denton by-election, Labour denounced Reform’s plans as promoting ‘hatred’ and ‘division’.
This makes me angry since fascism cannot be opposed by being ‘nice’ about its right-wing extension of Toryism.
Serious opposition to Reform says Farage’s gang of billionaires – plus ex-Tory super-rich – and their Trump-like ICE deportations, costing livelihoods and well-being of settled UK population - as well as “legal” migrants - by the politics of hate must be stopped by sustained fightback NOW!
Literally, what Farage is planning is to tear us apart, and there’s no kind of Labour pussy-footing which can stop it and put our normal helpful humanity and compassion together again! Greens' community hard work is an answer?
Peaceful and constructive campaigning,
Alan Debenham
