FIREFIGHTERS from Taunton launched their biggest charity show on Friday, November 22 when they pooled their leisure time skills to buy a vitally needed electric wheelchair for a local toddler suffering from a wasting disease.
Most of the full-time firefighters in every watch are offering to work their off-duty hours in a variety of jobs from waiting to weeding to raise £4,000 needed for the wheelchair for Jasmine Rankin, who suffers from muscular astrophy.
Paul Jenkins, spokesman for the firefighters, said: "Our motto is to "Make Your Job Lighter - Hire a Firefighter" This lovely little girl faces a future in a wheelchair. At present, she can walk but the disease is progressing, so a wheelchair is needed by Christmas.
"The lads have offered to use their wide skills in their off-duty hours to do a variety of tasks, gardening, cleaning, cooking, waiting, DIY, escorts, farm work - anything you require."
