CAMPAIGNERS for a long-awaited cycle path linking villages including Bishops Lydeard to Taunton are urging people to back the project.

Environmental group Quantock Eco is behind the plan forward with backing from sustainable transport charity Sustrans and the West Somerset Railway.

Once a £7,500 feasibility study examining the scheme’s engineering and land ownership implications has been carried out money from developer contributions in the area is expected to be more forthcoming for its construction.

Though over £4,000 has already been raised, the remainder must be found.

Mike Rigby, chair of the Cycle Path Committee, said: “A cycle path linking Bishops Lydeard, Cotford St Luke, Norton Fitzwarren and Taunton would be a valuable asset.

“It would boost tourism, leisure and healthy living, improve road safety, reduce congestion and emissions, and help people save money.

“If everyone who has expressed support for the plan gave just £1 we’d reach our target.”

Cheques payable to Quantock Eco Cycle Path can be sent to 5 Snathe Lea, Bishops Lydeard, Taunton TA4 3PH or PayPal donations can be made using quantockecocyclepath@gmail.com

A drop-in launch event will be held from 9.30am to 1pm on April 13 at Bishops Lydeard village hall so people can find out more.
